SONs inform the Research Area Review Groups (RARGs) of the need for research to address a deficit in technical, policy or procedural guidance or practice relevant to execution of the USACE missions. The RARGs are composed of representatives from Divisions, Districts, and Centers of Expertise with additional representatives from USACE Institutes, research entities and Headquarters. SONs submitted by USACE personnel for Civil Works activities are reviewed and prioritized by the RARGs to ensure best use of limited R&D dollars, and thus inform research providing Field Practitioners with critically needed tools, models and guidance, based on state-of-the-art science & technology.
